Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi (384/994) was born in the village of Husrawjid, a town in Bayhaq, Nisabur and died in 458/ 1066 in Nisabur. He was one of the eminent scholars of Shafiite legal school. He compiled valuable works in various fields. He adopted the the transmisson method of Traditionists in his works. Islamic scholars compiled works called Dalail al-nubuwwa in order to establish the prophecy of the prophets in general, and that of our Prophet in particular. The work Dalail al-nubuwwa by al-Bayhaqi is one the most significant works in this genre. He compiled a short treatise called al-Madkhal ila Dalail al-nubuwwa as an introductory to Dalalil al-nubuwwa. In the former, he dealth with the sucjects such as the proof of the prophecy of the prophet Muhammad, the method to be followed in Dalail and the criticism of the accounts he transmitted by applying the method adopted in hadith methodology (usul al-hadith). He dealth with the every aspect of the prophecy and life of the Prophet Muhammad in detail. He well organized the narrations he maintioned in the book. He also tansmitted different versions of the narrations and mentioned whether these hadiths sound or not. His analysis of the narrations by using the criteria of hadith methodology made it an easy work to use.
