Abstract:
Önemli ticaret yollarının kesiştiği bir noktada kurulmuş olan Harran, tarihin her döneminde ele geçirilmek istenen bir yer olmuştur. Dünya ilim ve kültür hayatına tartışmasız çok büyük katkı sunmuş olan Harran'ın, İslam mimarisi içerisindeki yeride çok önemlidir. Emevi tarihinde bir ilk olan, Şam'dan başkentin Harran'a taşınmasıyla başlayan yoğun imar faaliyetleri cami, kale ve şehrin yeniden İslami anlayışla kurgulanması ile devam etmiştir. Helenistik ve bu toprakların en eski inancı olan Sabiilikle yoğrulmuş yeni bir kent kimliği oluşturulmuştur. Her gelen devletin, farklı bir bakış açısıyla katkı sunduğu Harran, o kadar ilerlemiştir ki dünyanın, güneş etrafında dönüşünü gerçeğinden çok az bir farkla hesaplandığı, tıp, astronomi, matematik ve çeviri çalışmalarının yapıldığı, bir bilim merkezine dönüşmüştür. Zengi ve Eyyübi dönemlerinde de yenilenen kent, değişimini ve gelişimini Moğol saldırılarına kadar devam ettirmiştir. Bu saldırılardan sonra boş bir kabuğa dönen şehrin sakinleride, başka merkezlere sürülmüştür. Bu evreden sonra şehir, birkaç haneli bir köye dönmüştür. Bu kadar ilerlemiş bir kültürün, İslami evresinin ele alınıp, incelenmesinin gerektiği düşünülmüştür.
Harran, which was founded at the intersection of important trade routes and has always been a place to be captured in every period of history. Harran unarguably contributed a great deal to world knowledge and culture life. Likewise, its place in Islamic architecture is very important. With the move of the capital from Damascus to Harran, first carried out in Emevi history, an extensive construction work began and continued by re-designing mosques, the castle and city with an Islamic conception. By mingling Hellenism with Sabiism, which had been the oldest religion in those lands, a new city identity was formed. Each state contributed to Harran by offering a different point of view. Therefore, Harran had developed so much that that it was transformed into a centre of science in which the fact that earth revolved around the sun was calculated with a rough certainty; and medicine, astronomy, maths and translation studies were conducted. The city which was also renovated during Zangids and Ayyubids periods had continued its change and development until the Mongol attacks. After these attacks, it was turned into an empty shell, so inhabitants of the city were exiled to other centres. After this period, the city had become a village with a few residences. Therefore, it is deemed to be necessary to examine the Islamic period of such a culture which was developed so much.
