Abstract:
Son yıllarda, kentsel alanın hızlı bir şekilde yayılması önemli bir konu haline gelmiş ve akademik alanda büyük bir ilgi görmeye başlamıştır. Cambridge sözlüğüne göre "genişleme" kelimesi, toprak yüzeyinin insanlar tarafında çeşitli yapılar ile kaplanması veya arazinin asıl amacı dışında farklı kullanımlara dönüştürmesi anlamına gelmektedir. Ayrıca, kentsel alanın yayılması, hava kirliliği ve doğal kaynakların bozulması gibi çevresel sorunlara neden olan bir işlem olarak da tarif edilmektedir. Kentsel yayılmanın ana nedenleri, nüfus artışı ile birlikte şehirlerin hızlı bir şekilde genişlemesi, insanın farklı ihtiyaçlarına göre doğal kullanımı değiştirmesi ve tarımsal arazilerin sanayi bölgesi olarak kullanılmasıdır. Bu çalışma, Irak'ın kuzeyinde yer alan Süleymaniye şehrinin genişlemesini ve genişlemenin tarım arazilerinin kullanımına etkisini incelemeyi amaçlamıştır. Son dönemlerde, Süleymaniye Bölgesinin sosyal ve ekonomik gelişimi nedeniyle, genişleme ve tarım arazilerinin amaç dışı kullanımı tehdidi ile karşı karşıyadır. Bu araştırmada, coğrafi bilgiler ile birlikte uzaktan algılama verileri araştırmanın materyalini oluşturmuştur. Bu amaçla, 2005 ve 2018 yıllarına ait iki LANDSAT uydu görüntüsü kullanılmıştır. Yıllar arasındaki arazi kullanımını değişikliğini tespit edebilmek için, sınıflandırma ve değişiklik tespit yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular, kentsel yerleşim yerinin 2005 ve 2018 yılları arasında 88 km2'den 115 km2'ye genişlediğini ortaya koymuştur. Şehrin yerleşiminin genişlemesi yeşil arazi örtüsünde % 8.32 oranında azalmaya neden olmuştur. Değişim tespiti sonuçları, kentsel ve çorak arazilerde sırasıyla % 41 ve % 75 oranında değişim olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu çalışmada ulaşılan sonuçlar, bölgedeki plansız kentleşmeyi kontrol etmek ve çevre üzerindeki olumsuz etkilerini azaltmak için politika yapıcılara ve şehir plancılarına yardımcı olacak öneme sahiptir.
Rapid expansion of the urban area has recently become an important issue and has gained great interest in the academic field. According to the Cambridge dictionary, the word "expansion" means covering the land with man-made structure or converting different land use and land cover to build up land in insufficient way. The expansion of an urban area often causes environmental problems such as unacceptable air pollution and degradation of natural resources. The reason for this is expressed as the rapid expansion of the city through man-made buildings and infrastructure constructions, changing the use of natural lands based on different needs of human beings and the use of agricultural lands as industrial zones. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the expansion of Sulaymaniyah city located in the north of Iraq, and the effect of this expansion on the use of agricultural land. In the last quarter of the century, due to the social and economic developments in the Sulaymaniyah Region, a rapid population growth and significant land use changes have occurred. In this study, geographic information and remote sensing data constitute the material of the study. For this purpose, two LANDSAT satellite images of 2005 and 2018 were used. Classification and change detection methods have been used to detect changes in land use between 2005 and 2018. The results revealed that the urban settlement expanded from 88 km2 to 115 km2 between 2005 and 2018. The expansion of the settlement resulted in a 8.32% decrease in green land cover. The results of change detection showed 41% and 75% changes in urban and barren lands, respectively. The results of this study are important to guide policy makers and city planners to control unplanned urbanization in the region and reduce their negative impacts on the environment.
