Abstract: | Epilepsy is one of the most common serious neurological disorders in childhood. Epidemiological studies over the past few decades have greatly increased available knowledge of the incidence and prognosis of seizures. Serum amino acid (AA) profiles change in epilepsy. It is not yet clear whether this is due to the disease process itself or to other variables such as seizure type, seizure frequency, disease duration, medication, or altered liver function. Therefore, investigation of amino acid levels is important for the diagnosis and follow-up of the disease's treatment. The aim of this study; The aim of this study is to examine the amino acid profile level before and after treatment in pediatric patients with epilepsy and to investigate the potential for use in diagnosis and treatment by comparing it with the healthy control group. In our study, blood samples and blood samples were obtained from 50 patients diagnosed with epilepsy, who applied to Şanlıurfa Harran University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, and were compared with 50 healthy control groups. Amino acid profiles were analyzed by LC-MS/MS method. Statistical analysis of the obtained data was done with SPSS. Average alanine, arginine citrulline, glutamine, glutamic acid, histidine, glycine, leucine, isoleucine, alloisoleucine, lysine methionine, ornithine, phenylalanine, ornithine, proline, serine, valine, alpha amino pimelic acid, serine, argino succinic acid, alpha amino, gamma amino butyric acid, methyl histidine-3 hydroxylysine, hydroxyproline, cysteine homocysteine, ethanolamine, phosphoethanolamine, 5-oh-trp, taurine levels were found to be significantly higher before treatment than after treatment and control group. As a result of the statistical analysis between the groups, it was found statistically significant both between the pre-treatment and post-treatment groups, and between the pre-treatment and control groups. (p0.05). As a result of the study, it was concluded that more studies are needed to understand the role of amino acids in epilepsy. |
