Abstract

Bu çalışmanın konusu, Urfa kent tarihinin II. Dünya Savaşı sürecinde ele alınması ve siyaset, ekonomi, eğitim, sağlık gibi temel alanlar çerçevesinde değerlendirilmesidir. Türkiye'nin savaşa girmemesine rağmen savaşın olumsuz koşullarından etkilenmesinden hareketle, bu koşulların Urfa'da nasıl yaşandığını ve ne tür etkiler bıraktığının tespiti amaçlanmıştır. Bu bağlamda, arşiv tarama yöntemi kullanılarak Cumhuriyet Arşivi'nde yer alan belgeler ile ulusal ve yerel basın taranmış, elde edilen bilgi ve belgeler, birincil kaynaklar ve sözlü görüşmelerle desteklenmiştir. Çalışmada, savaşın olumsuz koşullarının Türkiye genelinde ve Urfa özelinde yaşandığı bilgisine ulaşılmakla birlikte savaş sürecine rağmen Urfa'da eğitim, sağlık, gündelik yaşam v.b. alanlarda olumlu gelişmelerin de yaşandığı saptanmıştır. Tarımsal üretimin arttırılması, yeni okulların açılması ve salgın hastalıklarla mücadelede başarı kazanılması bu gelişmelere örnek olarak gösterilebilir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Urfa (Şanlıurfa), II. Dünya Savaşı, kent tarihi. This thesis examines the history of Urfa in the period of World War II in terms of politics, economics, education and health. It aims to find out the effects of war on Urfa, despite Turkey's non involvement in the war. For this purpose, documents available in the Republic Archive, national and local press were reviewed and these were supported by other primary sources and interviews. The study has indicated that the war conditions were felt across Turkey and particularly in Urfa. In spite of this encounter, some positive developments in education, health, daily life etc in Urfa have been found out. Increase in the agricultural production, opening of new schools and success in the fight against epidemic diseases can be listed as the examples of these developments.
